Leeroy Snyman
Started out on drums at the tender age of 17, realized that it was too expensive for a damn kit, and I was born in a cardboard box. The obvious solution was guitar. My whole family was involved in music and my dad taught me a couple chords. At 19 I started a band with a friend of mine.
First band was a Metal/Hard Rock group called Virtual Insanity, never progressed, the drummer ended up in rehab… another good reason not to become a drummer. Next was Sour Nipple, that evolved to Stool Henge, pretty much a metal/hard rock cover band. We played a couple clubs and festivals but disbanded when our guitarist moved to London. During that time the band scene in Bethlehem dissolved and only easy listening and blues cover bands got gigs. I started playing lead guitar for a local praise and worship band. An old mate of mine then returned from London and we formed Afrikaanse hard rock band Koeke Moer, influenced by AC/DC. Didn’t last long, local churches lynched us (I got a fiery red hot poker up my ass)! We changed the name to Bendover and did rock/blues/funk covers.
Eventually met a gorilla like man beast called Piet ‘Metallica’, imagine Wolverine and King Kong’s love child… and the rest as they say is history!
